Saturday Photo Hunt – Delicious

The original family-owned Columbia Restaurant is Florida’s oldest restaurant and is located in Tampa’s historic Ybor City. It has 15 dining rooms and takes up an entire city block.

The Columbia specializes in Cuban and Spanish cuisine, and is famous for their authentic Cuban sandwiches and delicious Arroz con Pollo.

Arroz con Pollo “Valenciana” – Casimiro Hernandez, Sr.’s original recipe for this simple yet classic dish that helped make the Columbia famous. A combination of bone-in chicken sauteéd with extra virgin olive oil and green peppers, Spanish onions, tomato, garlic, herbs and baked in casserole with Valencia rice then splashed with Adelita Chardonnay wine and topped with green peas and red pimientos.

In addition to the original restaurant in Ybor City, there are six other Columbia restaurants in other Florida locations. Two years ago, we ate lunch at the Columbia Restaurant in St. Augustine, and this past spring, we dined at the original Ybor City Restaurant, where these photographs were taken. The food and ambiance at both locations were truly delicious.

Because I am fairly certain that a photograph of something delicious to eat was expected, I offer this photograph of the most delicious strawberry pie…

…baked from scratch by my husband – just for me. Perfectly delicious.
